Well, first thank you to all those who supported me on this project. I personally raised over $600 for World Vision and our church group raised over $7000. What's 30 hour famine? Well it's a World Vision program to feed and rebuild communities that are dying from famine and hunger in Africa. Our group went without any solid food for 30 hours in order to raise awareness with our friends, raise money to feed the hungry and to get a taste of what it's like to live with hunger on a constant basis. In addition to fasting from food, we also held a rally march at a mall near our church as well as each of us doing some kind of house/yard work for 4 hours in exchange for donations to World Vision.
Personally this was the second time I've done the 30 hour famine, so I kinda knew what to expect. It was a bit harder than last time because I had to feed my dogs and my son while fasting. Even though my stomach was able to convince my mind that it wasn't hungry, my mind would send crazy cramping signals to my stomach everytime I had to prepare Eli's food. The most difficult part I would say has been the recovery process. I guess I'm getting old, because I've been sick for all 2 weeks since the famine. But that's ok, because that's what people who are starving are going through in the world as we speak. I hope that my participation in this event will keep me sensitive to the sufferings of others and how much God has already given our family. We don't need any more stuff, just need to be thankful and willing to share what we can.
