Well it's Saturday morning at 6 in the morning... we've been up since 4am. What better to do than to write in our blog and tell you all what the last 24 hours have been like.
We arrived at SFO at 9am only to find out the flight is completely full due to some unknown 3 day weekend in Japan which meant that Eli won't get a seat... but we thought that's ok... out of the 11 hours that we were in the air, Eli slept a grand total of 30 minutes!!! But I must tell you that it wasn't his fault. We got him to sleep and layed him down on the floor in front of us on top of some pillows, mouth wide open as you'll see in the picture. 30 minutes later, the stewardess came and told us that it wasn't safe to put him there and that we must pick him up. Thus was the end of our sanity on the plane. But through this very difficult 11 hours, Calvin and I looked at each other and reminded ourselves that we should expect trials and that God will see us through. All in all, I don't think it would have mattered if he had a seat, what we could of used is a serious baby striaght jacket!!
We arrived in Mark and Jin's house after another 2.5 hour bus ride from the airport. We walked into the house to about 15 Japanese students practicing their English. Mike and Calvin enjoyed the next 2 hours meeting the students, sharing about themselves, demostrating their expertise in English and then sharing their thoughts on a bible discussion regarding Jesus' teaching on the issue of Gossip. It was a tremendous experience so far, the students were very open to all the discussion and they were so welcoming of us that we felt very comfortable with them. While the guys interacted with the students, I got Eli ready for bed, 7 hours past his normal bed time. Then while he was screaming at the top of his lungs protesting about going to sleep, I got the chance to chit chat with the students before they went home.
We look forward to when the Roods will get up this morning so that we can find out what's in store for us today. Thank you so much everyone for praying for us. We are excited to be here and can't wait to see what God is up to next.
