Last year around the same time as Eli was finishing his potty training, we got him a nice tricycle and was encouraging him to learn to ride it. I remember something he told me as he was struggling with just peddling the trike while being enamored with our neighbor's scooter. He said "Mom, I want to ride my tricycle, then you can buy me a scooter, then I want to ride a bicyle, then I want some roller-blades, then I want to ride a motorcycle..." I just smiled and told him to learn to ride his tricycle first.
Well Eli has not only learned to ride his tricycle and gotten bored with it, flash forward to this past month he quickly pick up his bicycle and learned to balance and ride his bike. Now we're riding our bikes every night, in fact he demands it more than candy and ice cream! Not only that, every time he picks up some new sport that we quickly dismiss as "you're too small to do that", he has surprised us... he's picking up pool, swimming, ping pong, tennis, and frissbee. Up next, he's eyeing a pair of toddler roller-blades that are hand-me-downs sitting in the garage along with my golf clubs and hockey stick... I guess Calvin and I should buckle up for the ride and store up as much hand-me-down sports equipment as we can!
